E-ink, the company behind the screen of most e-book readers, has just announced the Triton display technology that enables color ePaper. In addition to 16 levels of grayscale we found on ordinary e-ink displays, Triton is capable of displaying thousands of colors. Color displays made with Triton Imaging Film enable ultra-low power and high mobility devices with a paper-like experience, and are fully viewable in direct sunlight.

According to E-ink, the Triton color display can perform up to 20 percent faster than those made with previous generations of E Ink Imaging Film, no matter it’s turning a page, selecting a menu, taking notes, or viewing simple animations.

HP introduces two new low-cost, easy-to-use digital signage computers, the SignagePlayer mp8000s and SignagePlayer mp8000r, designed for independent retailers, and other small to mid-size businesses that want to deploy full-featured digital signage at a single location or across a small network.

The mp8000s supports content up to 720p in a small device design that can be mounted behind the display while the mp8000r features NVIDIA discrete graphics for the 1080p content. They are pre-installed with Scala QuickStart software, which allows a user to be up and running in minutes and offers simple visual interface for creating, managing and scheduling information on the HP SignagePlayer.

The HP SignagePlayer mp8000s is priced at $1119 while the mp8000r costs $1079.

Intel launches two new models in its X25-M G2 series of solid state drives, the 80GB SSDSA2MH080G2K5 and the 120GB SSDSA2MH120G2K5. Both of them use Intel’s SSD controller, of course. The 2.5-inch SSDs are based on 34nm MLC flash memory.

The X25-M G2 offers up to 250MB/s read and 70MB/s write speeds. The 80GB and 120GB SSDs are available with desktop installation kit, which includes a 3.5-inch drive bay to 2.5-inch 2.5-inch SSD adapter bracket, screws and installatio guide. You can find them at Amazon:

Energy Sistem launches its Color Book series color e-book reading device with a 5-inch color LCD display with 800×480 resolution. The multimedia Color Book supports not only TXT, HTML, PDF, EPUB, FB2, RTF, MOBI, CHM, DOC document/e-book files, but plays also WMA, MP3 audio; MP4, WMV, AVI, RMVB, FLV, ASF, 3GP, MOV video; and JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF images. Netgear has just added several new models to its ReadyNAS Ultra family of home media servers. Both the new Ultra 2 Plus and Ultra 2 network attached storage servers are compatible with TiVo for expanding DVR capacity; Orb mobile streaming and Skifta Remote DLNA Streaming. Onkyo CS-V645

Onkyo is launching two mini sound systems, the CS-V645 DVD/CD Mini System and the CS-445 CD mini system. Both systems have built-in iPod dock and feature 40-watt stereo amplifier sections and a pair of high-performance two-way bass-reflex loudspeakers with 1-inch soft dome tweeters and the company’s signature OMF (Onkyo Micro Fiber) woofer cones.

The CS-V645 features a DVD/CD receiver comes with a USB port, in addition to iPod dock. It offers high-def HDMI output with 1080p upscaling.In addition to CD and DVD playback, the CS-V645 also plays MP3, WMA, JPEG, and DivX from CD, DVD, USB and iPod.

The Onkyo CS-445, on the other hand, supports only CD’s CD-R and CD-RW media with standard CD-audio, MP3, and WMA files. Though the iPod dock is still there, Onkyo removes USB port from the system.
