ASUS P5P43TD Pro LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard

Stable. All my components are working at top efficiency. CPU is cool, GPU is awesome, memory, HDD and OD are all fine, front and back ports are all working. There is also nothing wrong with the LAN port as someone mentioned in a review. Seriously go get this mobo.
- DDR3 memory. Top of the line memory standard and performance is great.
- 1 PCI Express x16 2.0 slot. 1 graphics slot was all I needed and I got it. 2 slots are not worth the extra money. Sure you get more performance but SLI and CF never allow you to utilize the full potential of 2 cards. Besides GPUs get outdated quickly. Wouldn't you rather discard 1 GPU than 2?
-eSATA+Optical audio ports. I've been trying to find a mobo with these features and I'm glad I got this one. They're an added bonus to an already great board.

To all the owners of this motherboard who cannot get their facts right. THE PCI EXPRESS X16 PORT IS 2.0, or Gen 2, latest and greatest..whatever you want to call it. Instead of yammering nonsense and docking off eggs, spend some time researching your new motherboard. If you don't believe me, install this neat program called GPU-Z that tells you exactly what version of PCI express that your card as well as your motherboard is running at. If you STILL don't believe me, know that this mobo uses the P43 intel chipset, one of whose features is...you guessed it, PCI Express x16 2.0. Yes it's true that newegg forgot to include this information, but come on...is it that hard to look it up? Hint: Use Google.

Getting Older

Great Things About Getting Older.....

Your eyes won't get much worse.

Things you buy now won't wear out.

There's nothing left to learn the hard way.

Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

No one expects you to run into a burning building.

In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.

Your joints are more accurate than the National Weather Service.

Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember
them either.

constitutional \kon-stih-TOO-shuhn-uhl; -TYOO-\, noun:

A walk taken for one's health.

Kerensky was, I imagine, on his usual early morning constitutional.
-- Richard Elman, Namedropping: Mostly Literary Memoirs
"Estha Mon!" he would call out, in his high, piping voice, frayed and fibrous now, like sugarcane stripped of its bark. "Good morning! Your daily constitutional?"
-- Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things
A constitutional is so called because it is taken for the benefit of one's constitution.

Description:
tortuous \TOR-choo-us\, adjective:

1. Marked by repeated turns and bends; as, "a tortuous road up the mountain."
2. Not straightforward; devious; as, "his tortuous reasoning."
3. Highly involved or intricate; as, "tortuous legal procedures."

. . .the tortuous, narrow streets of Jerusalem's Old City.
-- Lee Hockstader, "Pope's Road to Israel Paved by Past Errors", Washington Post, March 12, 2000
The attempts to substitute machines, methods of mass production, for the slow manual labour of antiquaries and historical researchers have all broken down; we still rely on those who spend their lives in painfully piecing together their knowledge from fragments of actual evidence, obeying this evidence wherever it leads them, however tortuous and unfamiliar the pattern, or with no consciousness of any pattern at all.
-- Isaiah Berlin, The Sense of Reality: Studies in Ideas and their History
Thus in the 1970s Terry Erwin of the Smithsonian Institution anaesthetized and then counted all the species of beetle in just one tree in Panama, perceived that the number of unknown species far outweighed the ones that had previously been identified, and through a sequence of reasoning that may seem a trifle tortuous but is widely agreed to be reasonable, calculated that the true number of all species on Earth is probably nearer to 30 million.
-- Colin Tudge, The Variety of Life
Tortuous is from Latin tortuosus, from tortus, "a twisting," from the past participle of torquere, "to twist."

Create an iPhone with Photoshop (DesignCEO.com – Graphic Design and Web Resources)
Photoshop is a very powerful tool, not only to edit images and create photo manipulations or do some digital art, but also because you can also draw designs from scratch, of course not as good or with as many options as Adobe Illustrator, but then again, remember that this is not a drawing oriented software!
This tutorial will teach you step by step how to create an iPhone with adobe Photoshop from scratch, drawing it and then adding some nice and realistic visual effects so it doesn’t seem drawn. This is a very interesting tutorial that explores Photoshop’s abilities away from photo manipulation, so it’s worth a try.

Our friends at Think Design Blog have always created nice social networking icons. Their latest set includes a whole lot of social networking icons available in all sorts of styles. Each set can be used on your website for free.

Hello all! For all that celebrated it, I hope yall had a great Thanksgiving! A lot of turkey and booze had me a bit slower last week :) But today I’ve got some very cool Vector Social Networking Icons for you. They included 21 social networking icons, in 2 different styles, with 10 color variations total. So in short, it’s a lot of icons! One of the styles is more glossy/gradient-y, and one of the styles is flat. This way you can use them for a bunch of different projects. The flat icons are super easy to change colors, so customization should be pretty easy. Also, the download includes both CS & CS3 files. I’m including a preview of a couple of the colors, and the 2 different styles. Enjoy!

Blue Moon Eclipse
Credit & Copyright: Jean Paul Roux
Explanation: The International Year of Astronomy 2009 ended with a Blue Moon and a partial lunar eclipse, as the second Full Moon of December grazed the Earth's shadow on December 31st. The New Year's Eve Blue Moon eclipse was visible throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and parts of Alaska, captured in this two exposure composite in cloudy skies over Saint Bonnet de Mure, France. Playing across the Moon's southern reaches, the edge of Earth's umbra, or dark central shadow, appears on the right side along with the prominent ray crater Tycho. At maximum eclipse, the umbra covered only about 8 percent of the diameter of the lunar disk.

1080p HD

Time for your head to start spinning: In September 2008, Nikon introduced the $999 12.3MP D90, the first DSLR with HD video recording. Canon quickly followed with the $2,699 21.1MP EOS 5D Mark II, which captured 1080p video instead of the 720p of arch rival Nikon. But close to $3,000 is pretty steep for a camera in the midst of a recession, so the 5D didn’t dampen the appeal of the D90. With the new EOS Rebel T1i, Canon is aiming straight for cash-strapped photographers and Nikon’s jugular with a 15.1-megapixel DSLR that records 1080p movies for hundreds less than a D90 kit with lens – all in the space of six months. Who says Moore’s Law doesn’t affect everything with a chip inside? Now, is the new T1i the killer DSLR it appears to be? We put it through its paces to find out.
Pros: High-quality 15.1MP stills, Takes full HD videos, Excellent 3-inch LCD, Noise under control up to ISO 800, Live View mode works well
Cons: Shooting in-focus videos takes work, Boring design, Only shoots 20 fps at full HD, not 30, Not as rugged as more expensive DSLRs

1080p HD

Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-G1 is a highly capable and thoroughly enjoyable camera to use. The 100% Live View system with flexible screen and detailed viewfinder are a joy to compose with, the controls and handling quick and easy, the image quality comparable to the best of the current budget DSLRs, while the low size and weight ensure it never becomes a burden. And while the choice of body colours and Intelligent Auto mode suggest beginners as a target market, enthusiasts are also well-catered for with features like seven-frame bracketing which are not normally offered until mid-range or semi-pro DSLRs.

There’s certainly a lot to like here, but equally a few key downsides. Like all new standards, there’s a limited lens selection at launch and the ability to mount existing Four Thirds lenses via an adapter of little consolation when most suffer from AF restrictions. For all that’s great about the G1’s Live View Finder, there’s counter-arguments of a noisy and jerky image under very low light. The 100% Live View experience inevitably has an impact on battery consumption, and the lack of a movie mode an annoying omission given the buzz around the capability and a future Lumix G model already having the capability.

So we wouldn’t recommend the Lumix G1 to anyone who’s really into low light shooting, requires a wide lens selection from day-one, or of course needs video recording capabilities. But these caveats only eliminate a relatively small number of photographers. Everyone else will find a camera that combines the size and ease of a typical super-zoom with the quality and (potential) optical flexibility of a traditional DSLR; the two kit lenses are also pretty respectable. As such even with a forthcoming model bringing video to the equation, we can Highly Recommend the Lumix G1 and look forward to seeing how Micro Four Thirds develops.

1080p HD

Canon PowerShot SX1 IS popular superzoom range of cameras began with the release of the PowerShot S1 IS back in 2004, and has been incrementally upgraded each year with more features and more pixels, with the last update being the PowerShot S5 IS announced in May of 2007. In September of 2008 Canon announced dual successors to the S5 IS. The cheaper of the two models is the Powershot SX10 IS, which features a 10 MP CCD sensor behind a 20X image stabilized lens, with the more expensive camera - the SX1 IS - adding RAW mode, a CMOS sensor, faster continuous shooting speed, and HD 1080p video recording.
Pros: Macro, Super Macro, HD video.
Cons: Image Quality isn't up to par but it is a Point & Shoot. I guess I'm expecting too much from it. I have a Canon 5D and the images from that are outstanding but it also a DSLR.

VR image stabilization also extends the D5000's performance in low-light conditions.

Slim & Compact Cameras

$426.99

Canon announced the SD970 IS and nine other compact digitals this past February, and if our review model is any indicator of the quality and performance of the others, Canon's got a batch of winners on their hands. The SD970 IS would seem to appeal to folks primarily interested in capturing images without too much effort on their part, as the lack of manual exposure controls leaves user inputs rather limited, but shutter and AF performance are good and image quality and color fidelity are first rate. It's not too big a stretch to believe that good performance and image quality may trump the desire for manual controls (or a RAW shooting option) in the minds of many more "hands-on" types looking for a camera in this class. There's not much to dislike with the SD970 IS. The 37mm wide angle isn't all that wide, so users will have to get further away from large subjects to get them all in the frame. On the other hand, the 5x zoom translates that 37mm into 185mm at the telephoto end, which helps get you a bit closer to distant subjects than most others in the class. And, as Canon is quick to point out in their ad copy, that 12.1 megapixel sensor offers "amazing resolution and editing" possibilities that effectively make that 185mm shoot even longer than it is. OK, some folks may cover the flash with their finger(s) until they get a feel for the camera, and full discharge flashes can seem like they take forever to recharge as the timer ticks closer to 10 seconds. The microphone in video mode doesn't handle wind very well and you'll swear that 5 to 7 knot breeze is really more like Category 5, but think of the dubbing possibilities that open up. Bottom line: this is an excellent camera overall and one that would be on my short list were I in the market for something of this class. Pros: Very good still image and color quality, Very good HD (720p) video quality, Good shutter lag and AF acquisition times, Good battery life. Cons: Flash easy to cover with finger(s) while shooting, Full discharge flash recycle times approach 10 seconds

Panasonic’s Lumix TZ7 (or ZS3 as it’s known in North America) is the successor to the enormously popular Lumix TZ5, and like that model, packs a super-zoom range into a compact form factor. This time the TZ7 / ZS3 zooms a little wider and a little longer with an impressive 12x range, and despite the small dimensions, the quality is very respectable. Like the TZ5 before it, you can record HD movies in 720p, but now have the choice of Motion JPEG or AVCHD encoding along with stereo sound. The already capable automatic mode has been enhanced and there’s also an HDMI port. Easily one of the best compacts around. Pros: 12x stabilised zoom with 25mm; HD video; great auto mode. Cons: Little manual control. HD mode no match for a camcorder. Overall: One of the best compacts just got better.

The Fujifilm Finepix F200EXR is heavily based on the previous F100fd model, offering the same body, versatile 28-140mm 5x zoom lens and a very similar control layout. Thankfully Fujifilm have reinstated a key feature that made the F-series cameras so appealing to serious photographers, namely the A / M creative shooting modes that give you more control over what the camera is doing. This is a very welcome step, although the lack of a shutter-priority mode and only offering two possible aperture settings does leave a slightly bitter taste in the mouth. The long-standing absence of a histogram in either shooting or playback mode and any bracketing options also grates, and many would-be-buyers will be instantly put off by the lack of a RAW mode. The potential combination of EXR and RAW is certainly mouth-watering, and one that we would love to see in a future Fujifilm camera.

For now, though, the Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR produces fantastic out-of-the-camera JPEG images with low noise and amazing dynamic range. Sure, the pay-off is physically smaller images in some instances, but if you want to literally see the finer details in all areas of your photos, that's a price well worth paying in our book.

Canon’s Digital IXUS 100 IS / PowerShot SD780 IS is a very stylish compact, with its slim build and rounded corners attracting admiring glances wherever we took it. Despite its tiny dimensions, Canon’s included 720p HD video, HDMI output, scene detection, and even a tiny optical viewfinder, and while the 2.5in screen may sound small, it looks great and there’s literally no room for anything bigger. On the downside, the 3x zoom is lacking true wide angle and you can’t adjust it while filming video, but there’s no denying the overall physical appeal of the camera - if you’re after a slim, stylish compact which handles itself well in general-use, it’s a great choice. Pros: Slim, stylish, HD video, HDMI output, viewfinder. Cons: Basic 3x lens with no wide angle or zooming when filming. Overall: Basic zoom, but still one of the best super-slim compacts.

The Canon IXUS 95 IS / PowerShot SD1200 IS is a small, light and stylish compact that will appeal to anyone who places a premium on looks and ease of use, but can’t stretch to models like the IXUS 100 IS / SD780 IS below. The IXUS 95 IS / SD1200 IS a capable little compact that produces great quality with the minimum of fuss. Sure, the zoom could be a little longer and HD video would be nice too, but those aren't features you'd expect in this price bracket. For our money, Canon has got it right where it matters - style, portability, ease of use and great picture quality. The IXUS 95 IS / SD1200 IS is one of the best budget compacts right now. Pros: Compact; good quality; viewfinder; low price. Cons:Basic 3x lens with no wide angle or zooming when filming. Overall: Stylish compact with good quality at a great price.

There's no doubt about it, this camera takes fun seriously. It's ready for a pool party and it wants to steal the limelight when it arrives. However, some of the problems I ran into while shooting with the FinePix Z33WP should be taken into account. The camera struggles in difficult lighting conditions, and finding the right balance in shooting settings is sometimes tricky. Shooting in Auto and Scene Recognition mode will take some of these decisions out of the hands of the user, but it's a far from perfect overall shooting experience. Don't count it out, though. It took some good quality images in and out of the water, it withstood our underwater testing, and it was generally a fun camera to use. For under $200, it's not a bad option at all, assuming you want all the attention that goes along with a flashy pink camera. And if you do, then flaunt it, baby, flaunt it. Pros: Small form factorn, Nice overall image quality, Dust and water sealed Cons: Noise at ISO 400 and above, Some chromatic aberration, Some lens flaws

The Samsung ST45 is a compact digital camera only 16mm slim and available in three colors: red, black, blue, and gray. Released in September of 2009, the ST45 is a simple-to-use ‘point and shoot’ camera with a 2.7” QVGA (230K) LCD display, a 12.2MP resolution, and a 3x optical zoom. It includes Samsung’s proprietary Smart Scene Recognition technology, which includes 11 pre-optimized settings for specific conditions like nighttime, portrait, macro, etc. Signature to the unit is its Digital Image Stabilization, that along with the wide-expanse of ISO settings (80-3200) reduces blur and ensures sharp images in both dark and light settings. Note also the Self Portrait/Frame Guide—an innovative new technology that allows a user to take a ghost picture, which another user then utilizes as a basis/template for taking the original user’s desired shot. It’s like Guy A pre-setting the shot for Guy B.
